RAM Working Notes (Towards One Revolution)

1. Begin by collecting 7 inch records (aka Singles, or 45s). Collect
them for the fact that they are obsolete. Collect them for the music
or artwork. Collect them because they, more than CDs or albums, act
as points in your life. This one was found in record bin in
Barcelona. This one was a gift when she came back from London. This
was one was your friend's high school punk band. This one reminds you
of a bar in Ohio. Find a reason. Find some records.

2. Collect 180 records in 5 years. It's not that many, but it is
enough for now.

3. Pick one randomly. We did not pick ours record randomly. We picked
it because it was on the turn table when we thought of this project.
We can not decided if this was a random event or not. We have chosen
to say it was not a random choice but should have been.

4. Find the time of one revolution on the 7 inch record playing at 45
RPMs (Note: This is an average time. Each revolution becomes smaller
(and faster) as the needle moves towards the center of the record.)

5. Find the total number of revolutions on the A side and the B side .

6. Transfer the album from analog to digital.

7. Cut the digital information into the correct number of revolutions
and time segments found in steps 4 and 5.

8. Create a website to redistribute the revolutions.

9. Upload your website.

10. Sit down and listen to the way the website has changed the music
for you. Think about what it has become. Think about the desire to
place things into order. Think about how the world is sometimes not
in order. Go pull out a 7 inch record and place it on the turntable.
Listen to it.
