Çankaya Municipality organizes a public art manifestation that will take place in the Kızılay district of Çankaya, Ankara. It is collaboration with The Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture.
The aim of the manifestation is to engage in international cultural exchange and thereby highlight Ankara as a centre of contemporary art; to explore the possibilities of public art for the development of Ankara and to introduce new artistic ideas and expressions to the public.
The title of the Çankaya Public Art Manifestation 2011 is: ‘Benim de Kalbim Var/ I also Have A Heart’
The manifestation will take place from May 20 until June 17 and will have two parts:
Sixteen temporary installations of artworks by 9 Turkish and 7 Dutch artists. All the artworks use the medium of photography (in a broad sense).
The theme focuses on human relations in the public space and investigates the shifting borderline between private and public space.
The artworks will be installed in Yüksel Caddesi, Konur Sokak and Karanfil Sokaği.
The Dutch artists are: Rob Sweere, Kostana Banovic, Liesbeth van Woerden, Jerome Symons, Marco Cops, Geert Mul and Jeroen Eisinga.
The Turkish artists are: Ece Akay, Metehan Özcan, Batur Gökçeer, Emre Erkal, Erkan Özgen, Volkan Aslan, Suat Öğüt, Özlem Günyol/Mustafa Kunt and Ferhat Özgür.
The Dutch artist Jerome Symons is curator. The Ankara architect Umut Şumnu is co-curator.
