connecting principle is a 48-hour event featuring time-based work by over 20
artists and musicians that will take place in and around the Fine Art
Department of Newcastle University. Each artist brings to the project the
sensibilities of their own practice to create a variety of experimental
works which will encompass performance, sound, installation, interventions
and web-based media.
The connecting principle of the work is of time-based process. The event
will utilise/explore/animate the incidental spaces in and around the Fine
Art building which are normally considered peripheral, creating a
discontinuity with the conventions of formal exhibition and opening up new
possibilities for the viewer to explore or participate in an evolving
situation.
Some works will be durational & some will be unannounced, while others will
occur at specific times and may require advance booking. Performances by
Fiona Wright are limited in audience capacity and booking is essential.
There will also be a special lounge area for refreshments, reflection,
internet access and discussion, plus screenings in the lecture theatre of
video works by the participating artists.

artists.
