Opening Reception for A Strange Alchemy & Neo-nomads: what travels with you?

  • Location:
    New York

N THE MAIN SPACE
Neo-nomads: What travels with you? poses a question addressing the transient nature of contemporary life in the 21st century: What does one take and carry as a Neo-nomad?

The exhibition features the work of seven contemporary artists who examine their relationships to mobility, evocative objects, and a sense of home as they utilize physical, emotional, and personal histories related to packing, leaving, and moving.

IN THE PROJECT ROOM
A Strange Alchemy is a group exhibition about transformative power curated by Persis Singh. Singh is the winter 2011 recipient of the Lori Ledis Curatorial Fellowship, a program that fosters emerging curatorial talent in the field of contemporary art.

Using photography and sculpture, the artists in A Strange Alchemy transform organic materials to create work that borders on the baroque, uncanny and transcendental.
