Out of the context of conceptual art in the sixties and in close contact with some of the best known artists, heterodox figures emerged such as the New Yorker Seth Siegelaub (1941). Gallery owner, editor, art dealer and independent curator, Siegelaub invented innovative methods in presenting and disseminating conceptual art. He also gave impetus to projects with a clear social impact in a cultural context marked by the Vietnam War and a more politically driven art. Proposals such as the United States Servicemen's Fund or "The Artist's Contract" are not understood outside the context of the time.
