The Transition Media Gallery is an online intermedia center for art. In an age of postmodernism and new media, art disciplines have merged and blurred lines that previously existed between media (painting, sculpture, etc.). Art is in a continual transitional state. The Transition Media Gallery is a document of that change and a symbol of that change. Based in Brooklyn, Transition Media makes specific efforts to reach out first to its New York community while always remaining open to the international community.
We host sound-as-art (experimental, creative, noise, sound poetry, etc.), text-as-art (hypertext, flash text, concrete, abstract, experimental poetry, etc.), and image-as-art (painting, photography, video art, installations, new media, etc.).
The Transition Media Gallery is using internet technology for the purpose of exhibiting art. The democratization of art is a dream realized through the internet. Galleries have sprung up and multiplied in numbers never before imagined. The unrecognized artist now has a chance to show their work to a worldwide audience without the traditional gallery system. The internet gallery also gives the viewer a chance to study and explore contemporary work in ways only previously dreamed. With major sites like rhizome.org, art-mine.com, artnet.com, ubu.com, and walkerart.org, art has proven that its transition to the new technologies is successful and continues to offer yet unrealized possibilities.
