Don Ritter Exhibition of Vested at .move - New European Media Art
Vested
interactive installation
12x19m
For thousands of years, humans have entertained themselves with the killing of their fellow beings under the guise of sports, religious rituals or being informed. The poet Byron coined the phrase Roman holiday in reference to a gathering of people to enjoy the suffering of others, a Schadenfreude. Vested is an enactment of a Roman holiday, a social portrait of this phenomenon as it exists today. By wearing a special vest, visitors can navigate through a video projection of well-known buildings, including art museums, towers, and ancient temples. By pressing the red button on the vest, a tragedy is ignited.
