BECOMING A SCHOOL
www.niash.org
NIASH (New Independent Art School Hastings) is planning to run a syndicate for 9 months starting in autumn. 20 artists will be invited to occupy, utilise and manage the multi-use project space and Art school, based at Rock House. Successful applicants will become protagonists within and for all areas of the school. The syndicate will work together to co-ordinate an arts and culture programme that questions established practices within the arts and culture arena and explores new approaches, strategies and modes of practice informed by the participants own work, research and experiences within their current disciplines. Collaboration, collective and cross disciplinary projects will be explored through a series of Lecture programmes, symposiums, workshops, events, pop-up shows, screenings, courses and practiced based research. All creative disciplines welcome.
The syndicate project is open to applicants from all over world, applicants living outside the UK and too far to be physically present may propose projects that can be worked into the programme remotely. Geographical location is not a factor in the selection process, but logistics must be taken into account in these circumstances.
It is understood that all participants will no doubt have other commitments and the project will be created and led by the participants, allowing for each individual write their own work diary.
£70 per month per applicant covers the cost of rent and utilities, artists will be encouraged to apply for funding for their projects.
Interested applicants will be asked to submit a proposal and a sample of work, to give an idea of how they with be working within the project. Proposals should be discussed with Kate Renwick before being submitted.
Deadline for expression of interest is 1st August. Proposals should be submitted by 12 noon on 14th August.
