ABOUT BAY AREA CURRENTS
Bay Area Currents offers a snapshot of the energetic and risk-taking work made in the Bay Area today, selected by a curator who has a clear knowledge of the region, and illustrated by a small number of key artists. Selection for Bay Area Currents is by a two stage review process. Preliminary jurying is online to determine artists for studio visits. The second review occurs during studio visits.
About the Juror:
Christina Linden began working as Associate Curator of Painting & Sculpture at the Oakland Museum of California in 2013 and has since led several projects, including a reinstallation of Beat and counterculture-era artworks in the Gallery of California Art, a presentation of archival material from Judy Chicago’s 1974 installation “A Butterfly for Oakland,” the dance and poetry event but what you want is far away, and an exhibition of work by photographer Marion Gray. Prior to her tenure at OMCA, Linden worked as an independent curator and writer based in Oakland with projects at SFMOMA, Kadist Art Foundation, the Stanford Hospitals & Clinics, and the UCSF Mission Bay Campus. She teaches as visiting graduate faculty at the San Francisco Art Institute. Linden’s expertise is focused in social practice, public space, and art in the Bay Area. She holds a Master of Arts in Curatorial Studies from Bard College, and a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from New York University.
