The visually spectacular new work at the NICA National Circus Centre, Prahran, is an ensemble performance by 3rd year students. Defying gravity to capture the heart, At First Sight plays with archetypal ideals of love, hope, trust and betrayal.

A 1960s-inspired apartment provides the backdrop for a story about love at first sight in the tradition of Romeo and Juliet, and the show weaves finely tuned circus skills into a dramatic and emotional landscape. Featuring amazing acrobatics and 'wall running', the dynamic cast interact with a projected filmic back drop in a scintillating combination of contemporary circus, theatre, evocative Latin-inspired music and the blend of moving image and sound art.

The show is the result of a first-time collaboration between director Gavin Robins (Sydney Theatre Company, Company B, Bell Shakespeare, Legs on the Wall), video designers Paul Rodgers and David Granato and sound composer, Darrin Verhagen.

Paul Rodgers (aka Arnold Eye Irons) was a member of seminal UK based installation/performance group Loophole Cinema. David Granato is best known for his groundbreaking music videos for bands including Regurgitator, Butterfingers, Resin Dogs, Screamfeeder and many more. Sound artist, Darrin Verhagen, is a regular participant in the Liquid Architecture and Immersion Festivals in Melbourne.
