if an artist produces a beautiful object on command, you may admire what
the artist does, but you will despise what he is

– because that's not really behaving like a human being, it's just
behaving like a machine – what you're really interested in is the artist,
you're interested in _people, and for people to have the opportunity to
live full and rewarding lives they have to be in control of what they do,
even if that happens to be economically less efficient.

Intellectuals are specialists in defamation, they're basically commissaars
– they're the ideological managers, so they are the ones who feel most
threatened by dissidence.

seems to me that the ability to produce a beautiful object on demand is
very much being in control of what you do.

Jon, Jon, earth to Jon. You are not paying adequate attention. Yes the
objectmaker is in control and no the objectviewer is not in control.

Robot golfers unveiled
An engineer in Florida has designed two robots which play golf.
One finds the tee and sets up the ball for a drive while the other putts
the ball into the hole.
The second machine is named RoboWoods after the world's number one player.
RoboWoods is the size of a shoebox and uses infrared sensors to locate the
ball and the hole - it then knocks the ball in with a shortened putter.
Its range isn't good enough for a competitive game and the sport's
authorities are expected to rule it illegal but its inventor, Kahlil Khan,
says it could be used to test putters.
There may be more of a market for his Li'l Golfing Buddy which scoots
around on rubber wheels, hunting for the tee with infrared sensors. It then
balances a ball on top before backing off.
Khan, a University of Florida student, said: "If you could buy a $500
putter, why not buy a $500 robot that putts the ball?"
