Dissect Journal 2

  • Deadline:
    July 1, 2014, 11:50 p.m.
  • Location:
    Dissect Journal,

For the second issue of Dissect Journal, we are considering the effect of the Internet and associated digital technologies on artistic production and seeking submissions that interrogate the relationship between online and offline, digital and analogue.

In responding to these concerns, submissions may consider the following questions: How does digital expression rely upon analogue expression, or vice versa? How can the materiality of the online world be figured? How does the Internet affect representation? Submissions need not necessarily maintain such distinctions. Indeed, any such oppositions may be unsustainable if each term is haunted by its opposite. Given that digital technology relies upon binary states, it may be that critical examinations would challenge the aesthetic, cultural or other consequences of such a logic.

Dissect Content

Dissect Journal is calling for proposals in the form of: artist interviews and profiles; research-based feature articles and essays; and shorter reviews of contemporary art exhibitions, publications and projects. We also welcome artist pages and other photographic and/or image-based essays and material.

All written and visual proposals that critically and inventively contribute to the theme of our second issue and the current dialogue on contemporary art will be considered.

Written proposals

Please send a 150-200 word extract or outline of your proposed written work, with relevant images attached if necessary.

In your proposal, please also include a current CV and short writing sample (500 words or less).

Artist proposals suitable to the published medium (both print and web)

Please submit a description, mock-up or similar example of a proposed artwork, photographic series, etc.

In your proposal, please include a current CV.

As our second issue explores the histories and futures of contemporary artists engaging with emergent technologies, our website will be redesigned and exist as a vital counterpart to the printed matter. As we seek to encourage experimentation, contributors are welcome to submit content envisioned strictly for digital publication. Alternatively, submissions may bridge offline and online realities, appearing both in our printed issue and on our website.

Email submissions and enquiries to: info@dissectjournal.com

Proposals are due by 1 July 2014 and submissions are due 17 August 2014
