I am a lecturer of Media and Cultural Studies at St. Xavier's College, Mumbai; a founding member of Impact Partners, a philanthropic organization that funds non-profit organizations working for social and cultural change in India; and an independent filmmaker.
Based on my first hand knowledge of Vishal Rawlley's relationship to Nungu, I am writing to protest Beatrice Gibson for her shameless and sustained plagiarism.
More significantly, I strongly condemn Mark of Rhizome's dismissive response to the matter as an indication that Rhizome is not a viable funding agency that benefits artists working outside of the western world.
I represent a group of outraged Indian artists and academics, who are prepared to direct a harsh media spotlight to this subject. As a funder actively working in the Indian scenario, I am prepared to launch a nationwide boycott against Rhizome funding in India.
I request that Rhizome immediately look into this matter with the utmost concern and sincerity.
Sincerely,
Shumona Goel
