The Digital and Interdisciplinary Arts Practice (DIAP) MFA program at the City College of New York is proud to announce the thesis shows of the inaugural graduating class. This eclectic crew of six artists presents work diverse in perspective and location, taking place on the Brooklyn Bridge, inside a storage unit, under the 7 train, down the length of 5th Ave. and elsewhere. There will be several public events during the last week in April and the first week in May, with a group reception Thursday May 1 from 5-9 pm at the DIAP Studio in Shepard Hall, room 408, 259 Convent Ave., NY, NY 10031. DIAP is a research-based program that examines the relationship between technology and art.

Lionel Cruet presents 'Espacio Intangible' (Intangible Space), a result of research on the concept of the cloud when used as a metaphor for stored digital information. Turning a mobile storage space into a temporary immersive environment filled with many media and information, the work investigates the intangibility of digital data.

Ting-lin Hou presents I’ll Be There, a project based on Hou’s family photos. The exhibit includes the full archive of photos and book based on the photos that raises questions about authenticity and memory.

In Looking for Same, Herbert Lacsina “hacks” the protocol of hook-up apps, culminating a photo series and a book that documents and constructs multiplicities of selves through failure and performance. Instead of sexual behavior, Lacsina attempts to produce and reproduce alternative modes of intimacy with other bodies.

Clarinda Mac Low will Free the Orphans, with help from the audience and other collaborators. Rescuing texts and photos that exist in copyright limbo, Mac Low mines the archives and brings in others to help give the orphans a voice, playfully prodding at the limits of intellectual property in a digitized age. Photos from the 1939 World’s Fair, failed pornography, false confessionals, living manuscripts, and more will populate a variety of structures (made by Erica Bailey) and situations, with physical and digital open access libraries.

Kara Schmidt’s A Perforated Center is a multi-site exhibition that examines the politics inherent in shared public spaces. Schmidt’s constructions, interventions, and performances will subvert public and semi-public areas and disrupt the flow of everyday thought and traffic patterns.

Under the 7 Train, by William Tucci, starts with a series of impromptu drum performances in the parking lot under the 7 Train viaducts and culminates in a multi-channel sound installation using field recordings from the performances and drumming paraphernalia. The performances are used as raw materials in compositions that reveal the relationship between the performer as an actor on a site, and the excitement of percussive instrumentation.
