Johansson Projects presents Collapsitalism: the holiday recession sale. The stock market like the art world is a prognosticator at the forward wave of change. One forecasts economies, the other forecasts imagination.
This exhibition is an attempt to connect art prices to stock market fluctuations beyond more visually interesting charts and indexes. Art is a spectacularly valuable commodity but is not immune from expansion and contractions. This, the economists assure us dourly, is now a full fledged recession. We at Johansson Projects are proud to offer our response to gloomy economics: eleven artists making their work available for less than 500 dollars each. We are trying to do our part to spur growth and job creation in this the critical holiday retail season. This show will offer new work by Northern California based emerging artists along with established artists.
Artists included are Zach Houston, Nathan Cordero, Hunter Longe, Eric Larson, Susie Grant, Carson Murdach, Joan Moment, Andrew Benson, Alex Case and more.
Johansson Projects is a contemporary art gallery at the vanguard of the Oakland art scene. Curated exhibitions showcase emerging and mid-career artists working in a diverse array of media. Johansson Projects is a locus for curators, collectors, artists and dealers to connect and engage in dialogue with the larger art community both regionally and nationally.
Johansson Projects is located at 2300 Telegraph Ave, Oakland, CA 94612
Gallery Hours are 12pm - 6pm Thursday through Saturday.
