It’s all in the game…
Festival October 3rd, 4th and 5th 2008
Exhibition october 3rd- october 26th
AveCom, traditionally the Arnhem stage for new media, and Square Eyes, the festival for short digital film, have joined forces and present: “It’s all in the game…”. This manifestation, consisting of a three-day festival and three exhibitions, is the result of an inspiring search for the mutual influences between art and games.
Festival
Square Eyes Festival, invited by AveCom, compiled a film- and performance programme that focuses on the connection between games and film. With the development of the digital techniques, these two worlds come closer and closer together, often even seem to merge into one another. Besides the technical aspects of digital film, attention will go to the characteristic visuals brought on by the games. Digital movies, interactive installations, performances, DJ’s, VJ’s and live-cinema with a.o.: MOTOR (UK), Michiel van der Zanden (NL), Shon Kim (USA), Thorsten Fleisch (DE), Gijs Gieskes (NL), VJ MNK and Toktek (NL), Marieke Verbiesen (NL/NO), Golan Levin (UK), Wouter Bijl (NL).
Friday October 3: 20:00 - 01:00 hrs
Saturday October 4: 20:00 - 01:00 hrs
Sunday October 5: 15:00 - 20:00 hrs
Exhibitions - on three locations
Most of the artworks shown during “It’s all in the game…” are derived from the intersection of audio-visual / digital / new media / technological innovation. If sculptors, painters, architects, sound-artists, performers or photographers were inspired by the game, they will surely be shown in this edition.
The research on the connection between games and visual arts could go on for many years. Therefore it is not our objective to show an overview of the mutual influence of the arts and the games. The compilers of the festival do hope however that the visitors can wonder through the exhibition for hours on end.
The exhibition is organised and compiled by Terry van Gurp and Rosell Heijmen.
