For European settlers, the American landscape presented itself as a space for renewal and innovation. This vision of America presents itself as an uninhabited space: a blank canvas to work upon.

A parallel narrative tells of a land that has been colonised and very nearly shaken empty of all original cultures. This is a polemic now brought to the feet of tech companies based in Silicon Valley.

Google didn't just chose to build offices in Mountain View solely because of cheaper rents for excessive space. Attaching 'Mountain View' to 'Headquarters' suggests a particular philosophy or outlook and a generic stake on landscape.

Mountain View is no longer a place or a panorama, it has been conquered by a tech corporation.
