Most of
the game hunting in New York State officially opens on October 1st.
Hunting season conjures visuals of rustic lodges, camouflage getups, hanging
carcasses, and mounted trophies. But “the hunt” with its intrinsic pursuit of
bounty, influences human experiences far beyond the landscape of the fields and
streams. Current global conditions like the Arab Spring uprisings, lengthy
unemployment lines, indicted financiers, super-sized athletes, and dreams of
homeownership, private islands, and singing idols are all evidence of the human
necessity for unrelenting pursuit. The curators seek work that addresses the
varied incarnations of hunting and gathering.
