WILD
ENNERDALE RESIDENCY, CUMBRIA
September – October 2011
AND is working in partnership with the
Forestry Commission (FC) to pilot a residency programme in the Northwest of
England. The Wild Ennerdale residency offers a unique opportunity for a Brazilian
artist to be in residence in Ennerdale Valley. The valley is located in the
heart of the in the western Lake District, Cumbria and is an area of innovative
conservation of international significance.

The aim of the programme is to offer a
Brazilian artist or group of artists a dedicated period of time to develop
research or a project in this unique site. AND are seeking applications from
individuals / groups working in emerging artistic practices, that questions
normality in connection with digital culture.
Applicants should have an established
background in their respective fields and should be able to demonstrate how a
residency period at AND will assist the development of their research and
practice.
OUTCOMES:
The residency format is open ended, however
we hope that the programme will result in a project or an area of research that
could be further developed for the AND Festival in 2012.
PARTICIPATION:
The resident artist(s) are expected to
engage collaboratively and creatively with Wild Ennerdale site users and the
partner organisation staff. The programme will provide a number of platforms
and opportunities for the artists to engage with the environment and the
communities.
The selected artist(s) will be expected to
spend at least one day a week with the FC staff on site, assisting with
conservation / maintenance work. The aim of this is to enable the resident
artist to engage with the site and the work being done there. There will also
be an opportunity to engage other communities in the Valley such as; Farming
Community, Volunteer Conservation Groups and local schools.
The AND festival will take place in
Cumbria 16 & 17 September and in Liverpool on 29 September -2 October. The
selected artists will be expected to be present and engage with these festival
actives.
Also the selected artists will be expected
to deliver at least one activity on site that is open to the public, for
example a workshop or presentation of work in progress or research. The
selected artists will be expected make their residency activity open to
audiences online, for examples via a blog.

DETAILS
This residency will be based in Wild
Ennerdale Valley, in the Western Lake District Cumbria in September and October
2011.
The following budget is available to the
resident artist (to be managed by AND):
An
artists' fee and stipend of £2000 GBP (to include any materials
and/or production and living costs, accommodation cost covered by AND)
Travel
expenses to the UK of up to £1000 GBP
Accommodation will be provided at the
Ennerdale Youth Hostel (private room) and is only accessible by foot or bike (a
bike can be provided). The residency can provide accommodation for up to 4
people, so the opportunity is open to applications from collaborating artist
groups or families (fees and stipend remain the same as above). The residency
is in a stunning, but very isolated location, therefore there is limited phone

Programme, How to be a Resident. In Summer 2011 and will launch a two year
programme of residencies across the Northwest and online. AND will work in
partnership with regional organisations such as Forestry commission and British
Waterways, to develop a programme that will question the model of a
contemporary arts residency programme.

O
objetivo do programa é oferecer a um artista, ou grupo de artistas brasileiros,
um período de tempo dedicado a desenvolver uma pesquisa ou um projeto neste
lugar singular. AND está abrindo inscrições para indivíduos/ grupos trabalhando
com práticas artísticas emergentes, que questionem a normalidade em conexão com
a cultura digital.
Os candidatos devem ter uma sólida experiência em suas respectivas áreas e devem ser capazes
de demonstrar como um período de residência
no AND vai contribuir para o desenvolvimento de sua
pesquisa e sua prática.
RESULTADOS:
O formato de residência é aberto, mas
esperamos que o programa resulte
em um projeto ou uma área de pesquisa que possa ser desenvolvida
para o AND Festival em 2012.

Wild Ennerdale e o pessoal da organização

selecionado(s) deverão passar pelo menos um dia por semana com o pessoal
da FC no local, ajudando com a conservação / trabalho de manutenção. O objetivo
é permitir que o artista residente colabore com o local e o trabalho que está
sendo realizado na área. Haverá também uma oportunidade para envolver outras
comunidades do vale, tais como, comunidade de agricultores, grupos de
conservação voluntários e escolas locais.
O AND festival acontecerá em Cúmbria, nos dias 16 e
17 Setembro e em Liverpool de 29 Setembro a 2 Outubro. Os artistas selecionados deverão estar presentes
e se envolver com as atividades do festival.
Os artistas selecionados deverão também realizar pelo menos uma atividade local
aberta ao público, por exemplo, uma oficina ou apresentação de trabalhos em andamento ou de pesquisa. Seria desejável ainda que sua
atividade de residência fosse aberta para o público on-line, por exemplo, através de um blog
realizado pelo artista.

A RESIDÊNCIA
Esta residência ocorrerá em Wild Ennerdale Valley, em

O seguinte

Uma taxa artística e bolsa de
