The 5th Festival de Arte Digital - FAD is open for submissions from artists all over the globe
The growing popularization of digital tools and platforms is significantly changing the way that we consume and produce art. Art – like science and technology – has changed and so has the way we relate to it. However, there is still some unfamiliarity with digital art, which is often relegated by the general public as inaccessible or as pure experimentation.
To discover innovative and consistent projects in Brazil and around the world, to expose them to an ever growing audience and to promote reflective and formative activities. These are the objectives of the 5th Festival de Arte Digital, which is already open for submissions, and will be until June 30th.
The selected artists will have theirs works exhibited during the whole month of September, at the Inimá de Paula Museum, in Belo Horizonte. Performances and workshops, to be selected by the call for submissions, will also take place in September.
In its fifth edition, the FAD is sponsored by Petrobras, through the Federal Law of Incentive to Culture (Ministry of Culture/Federal Government). The project also has the support from the Municipal Law of Incentive to Culture (Municipal Culture Foundation of Belo Horizonte).
_Call for Submissions
Starting May 30th, the FAD will receive submissions from artists all over the world who wish to present their works (or teach workshops) at the festival.
In this edition, the FAD’s theme will be Kinetic Art, also known as Kineticism. In Kinetic Art, motion constitutes the structuring principle behind the work. The FAD sees this concept in a very broad manner - works that have objects and sculptures in motion, that are interactive by the use of sensors, or even a conventional film (images in motion). All of this is Kinetic and under the theme.
The call is also open for works which do not necessarily fit into this category. For Henrique Roscoe (a.k.a. VJ 1mpar), artistic director for the festival, such a choice comes from the need for the festival to dialogue with all kinds of digital art initiatives. “The FAD is a fresh festival, but already assertively established in the Digital Art world. By not limiting ourselves to our central theme, we manage to establish more dialogues which may further drive the Festival”, says he. Thus, the curators will give priority, in their analysis, to projects which fit under the theme. However, works which are not directly related to Kinetics will also be considered.
The submissions will be judged by the curators based on the criteria of artistic concept, interaction, technological development, cost and feasibility. The call contemplates submissions by individual artists as well as collectives. The submissions are free of charge and open until June 30th, solely at the website www.festivaldeartedigital.com.br.
The results will be disclosed up to 15 days after the closing of this call, at the FAD website.
