I can still vividly recall the rapturous excitement and deliciously intoxicating moments that I had from reading storybooks and comics, and watching movies in my childhood, wishing the wonderful characters, the magical moments and the enchanting fairylands could someday come true. Such dreams have never left us for we are forever childish in our heart … Wild imaginations lead us to the beautiful land of fantasia!
Digital technology and the Internet, and now social networks, have given birth to media spectrum on which peoples of different countries interact and are connected wide and far. Diverse cultures of the world are more than ever interwoven into a cultural fantasia, creating the most spectacular rainbow and the most brilliant aurora touching the zenith and spreading across the sky. This media spectrum has unleashed humanity's creativity and imagination at an unprecedented, large scale.
"To live is to play" is a utopian ideal and more than ever closer to becoming reality.
FANTAsia invites innovative and playful digital and technologically mediated artworks that explore imagination in the networked era from artists worldwide. We will create a lively digital FANTAsia in Art Gallery to offer visitors a participatory experience that is interactive, playful, entertaining, futuristic, exquisite and intuitive. Explorations may include, but are not limited to, examining functional, structural, cultural, emotional or metaphorical definitions; environmental and social interaction; and constructing alternative realities, experiences and meanings.
We encourage submissions from throughout the world and from artists of all nationalities. Visual artists new to SIGGRAPH Asia who have created relevant artworks are especially encouraged to submit their work.
The SIGGRAPH Asia 2011 Art Gallery will accept a wide range of digital art works related to our theme 'FANTAsia', and mainly consider (but not limited to) the following type of works:
