From August 18 to August 21, 2011, this year’s art and culture festival BEGEHUNGEN will address the issue of art and responsibility. Keeping with the theme "You Are Leaving the Area of Responsibility"artists of every genre are invited to apply until May 15, 2011. For the second time in a row, BEGEHUNGEN will present an art award endowed with EUR 1000.
This year’s BEGEHUNGEN will take place at a former prison, the JVA Kaßberg in Chemnitz. The centrally located facility offers an exhibition space of 4000m². Empty prison cells (app. 8 m²), prison wings, former administrative offices (25-30 m²) and a spacious inner courtyard offer ample room for an aesthetic experiment in an environment that is steeped in history.
